With Vesuvius lurking in the background, we explored Pompeii on a beautiful October morning.
History tells us the day Vesuvius roared to life and destroyed so many lives, the sky was just as blue. Some people may have been enjoying their gardens that morning.
People went about their business that morning. They walked to the market, went to the baths or maybe just stood around chatting with friends.
They had no idea that the beautiful mountain next door had already planned their day for them. The mountain and the gods had decided their fate.
The growl became a roar, then silence. Quiet for centuries.
