Saturday’s weather was lovely.  In the morning I went to my aforementioned scrapbooking class.  I am getting a little better at keeping up with the pack – thank God.

After the class JeanPaul and I went for a little jaunt on the motorcycle.  We were just tooling along, enjoying the scenery when what appears but a clump of giant white statues at the edge of a consignment store parking lot.  Before we even said a word to each other, the bike pulled itself into the lot.

Giant 6 foot tall statues of Bacchus, curvy  sea nymphs and huge multi-level fountains were standing (and lying in pieces) all over the place.  We had quite a time chatting with the owner of these monoliths.   We climbed over the ruins, asked prices, configured deals, shook hands and continued on our way to the beach.

Sunday afternoon found us back amid the ruins, this time loading blocks of sculpted concrete via a forklift onto our truck.   It is silly, really.  We live on a tiny city lot and although we have been planting trees in the hopes of creating a Tuscan-like feel to the side yard, it is quite ridiculous for us to be purchasing (at incredibly low prices I might add) large pieces of statuary.

JeanPaul never ceases to surprise me.  With the truck loaded to capacity and the seller flush with his new cash, JeanPaul offers to buy not one but two of the giant Bacchus statues.  He low balls the price, apologizing for the offer.  Accepting defeat he shakes the guy’s hand and jumps in the truck.  Turning onto the main road with our concrete beauties, he gives me a wink and says we’ll have those statues by summer’s end.
